When an editor asks me what I write about, I tell them that I'll write about anything. Really. But my main focus is the health and fitness realm, which has many (well-toned) arms to it. I've narrowed down the different areas that I mainly write about, with three examples from each below.
NUTRITION/HEALTH
I also write about nutrition and health topics. This comes in handy for those times when you're stuffing your face with a bagel while talking to a nutritionist who is going on about how people don't eat enough protein (true story, which made me alter my vegetarian ways). It's not advised, though, if you are the least bit of a hypochondriac-as any health writer will tell you, we've done a couple "symptoms" searches after writing health stories about certain medical conditions. Why, one time when I was on staff as a health editor, I had convinced myself that I had TMJ after editing and proofreading an article about just that topic. Turns out, I was just chomping obsessively on that Hubba Bubba with a little too much gusto because I was on deadline. I love writing these types of articles because talking to nutritionists and medical experts is cool-they're very dedicated about what they do and are always enthusiastic to spread the word.
