When an editor asks me what I write about, I tell them that I'll write about anything. Really. But my main focus is the health and fitness realm, which has many (well-toned) arms to it. I've narrowed down the different areas that I mainly write about, with three examples from each below.
GEAR
Gear articles are fun for an entirely different reason. Sure, you get a lot of free stuff for testing, but that's not the best part: It's a chance to really get into the readers' shoes (sometimes literally if you're doing a shoe review!) and figure out what they need and want out of a product. I love figuring out ways to present each piece of gear differently. I also got the chance to oversee the treadmill review for two years for Runner's World. Since I've been a runner for 22 years, and have run 13 marathons, I have a good idea of what runners and athletes look for in products and it's fun to see what companies come up with next. I'm also famously a techno-phobe so I'm pretty handy as a guinea pig-if I can figure out a sports watch, I figure, anyone can.
